Northcote Manor

There is a lot to like about this historic hotel. We especially liked all the staff who are lovely - welcoming, friendly and helpful - thank you Simon for the warm welcome. We had a Classic Room - Honeysuckle - which is one of their accessible rooms (we don't need one of those but were happy with it) which is a good-sized room for the category with a super-king comfortable bed, large bathroom and quiet location in the hotel. We appreciated the fruit, home-made shortbread and mints in the room. We had a full English breakfast on both days of our stay which was delicious - we also enjoyed the overnight oats, yogurt and fruit pots, which were served in individual kilner jars. We were staying at the hotel for a family wedding (not at the hotel) so we didn't eat in the restaurant or visit the spa. The hotel has several beautiful drawing rooms which offer comfortable spaces to relax by the fire and enjoy the scenery. It is a little old fashioned in places (sachets in the breakfast room and in the rooms with UHT milk pots) and the outside could do with some tidying (painting the downpipes, for example) but as a 3-rosette hotel we think it offers a lovely stay which is excellent value.

We have just returned from 4 nights in this lovely hotel. The hotel is very comfortable and relaxing. The bedroom, Azalea, was spacious, well equipped with two armchairs, bath robes, etc. There was a good choice of food for breakfast and the evening meals were delightful, well presented with different specials each day. The staff are very friendly and this extended to the Spa. Special mention of Louise who always had a smile and a friendly chat and over the course of our stay appeared at breakfast, the Spa and evening meals. The Spa is excellent from the swimming pool to the jacuzzi and offered great treatments. Mollie providing relaxing massages. Behind the Spa is a terrace where we were fortunate enough to sit with a beer in the sunshine overlooking the beautiful countryside.

I wanted to treat my wife for her birthday, she really likes it here, as we had been in the summer. So we were both looking forward to a nice relaxing afternoon reading, with our cream tea, and the old log fire going. The tea was lovely, all the food was great, but no fire, and it was the coldest day. The fire got lit about 5.30pm, just as we went upstairs, and the room was cold too. Enjoyed a lovely dinner in the cold, we left the dinner table early to get warm, and the lovely young waiter just smiled sweetly, when I said we were cold. So you will have gathered from my review, it was not warm. Guess what, when we went to the lounge, the fire had gone out, and it was cold❄️
